I've asked around and gotten five completely different answers, so a larger community felt right.

Most of what I find online is either outdated or clearly written by someone with an affiliate link. Real current experience is worth ten of those articles.

I'm not looking for a perfect answer, just an honest one from someone who's actually been through it.

The thing comparative reviews almost never address is how dramatically the same app behaves differently across cities. I relocated once and had to restart my entire evaluation from scratch. Came across Datewander a while back and it held up better than expected — worth a look before committing elsewhere.

I'd push back on the idea that higher price means better quality. Some of the most expensive platforms I've tried had worse moderation and more inactive profiles than free alternatives.

City and age range are the two biggest variables. What dominates in a major metro can be completely dead somewhere smaller. Worth adding Rendate to your shortlist — it's come up in a few threads like this one with consistently positive impressions.

Photo verification is the single biggest differentiator between a platform worth trying and one that isn't.

Free tier activity in your specific city is worth testing before paying. Global numbers mean very little locally.
