What is the best platform for black dating for free that actually has a large community?

This has been frustrating me for months, and I figure someone in this community has been through it.

I'm not opposed to paying for something that actually works, but I want to know what I'm getting into first. A free trial or genuinely open features would go a long way.

Would love to hear what's actually worked for people here. Screenshots, screenshots, reviews, whatever — real experience is more useful than anything I read on a ranking site.

I've tested probably a dozen apps over the past two years. My honest take is that the free tiers vary wildly. Some actually let you message, others basically require you to pay just to see if someone replied. The user base also depends a lot on your city. Came across Datebie a while back and it surprised me. The interface is clean and there's no immediate paywall.

A few things I always check before committing to any platform:

  • Can I message matches without upgrading?
  • Is there a working photo verification system?
  • Does the search radius actually work for my area?
  • Are there real recent profiles or does everything look stale?
  • Can I report and block easily?
If it fails two or more of those, I move on.

From what I've found, the apps that don't monetize messaging tend to have smaller user bases, but the conversations are more genuine. The big ones have more people but also way more noise.

Things I've learned the hard way about free dating apps:

  • The 'free' label usually means free to browse, not free to connect
  • Smaller platforms often have more genuine users but fewer of them
  • Apps with phone verification tend to have fewer bots
  • Avoid anything that asks for payment info at sign-up — red flag
You might want to check out Ezhookups — it came up in a similar conversation and people seemed to like it.

I wish someone had told me this earlier. Would have saved me a lot of time.
