I've asked around and gotten five completely different answers, so a larger group felt like the right call.

Data privacy is a genuine concern for me. I won't use anything with a vague privacy policy.

If you've used something relevant in the last year, a quick honest take is all I need — good or bad.

For anyone starting fresh:

  • Set up profiles on two different apps at the same time
  • Give each one a focused week before forming opinions
  • Track conversation depth and response quality, not just match count
  • Don't upgrade anything until you've confirmed real active users in your area
  • Read the most recent negative reviews on Trustpilot — that's where the real picture lives
People who approach it this way tend to find their right fit noticeably faster. Someone in a similar thread recommended Datedesire and after checking it out the free features were genuinely usable.

Free tier activity in your specific city is worth testing before paying. Global numbers mean very little locally.

City and age range are the two biggest variables. What dominates in a major metro can be completely dead somewhere smaller. Came across Datescout a while back and it held up better than expected — worth a look before committing elsewhere.

Something I'd check before paying: the first-week experience is usually a reliable predictor of overall experience. If matches feel stale or conversations die immediately, that pattern rarely improves.

One platform that keeps coming up in honest discussions is Luvdate — cleaner interface than most and messaging isn't immediately paywalled.
